Pioneering Kit

Pioneering refers to the knowledge of ropes, knots, and splices along with the ability to build rustic structures by lashing together poles and spars. It was one of the original 57 merit badges issued by the Boy Scouts of America in 1911 making it one of the oldest Scouting skills.

The council has one pioneering kit available at Beaumont Scout Reservation and one available at Camp Lewallen. The program is led by a trained instructor and is designed to take a troop from basic knot tying to building a large project in one day.

A troop with an adult trained on its use may use the Pioneering Kit by making a reservation with the Camping Service at any of the council service centers. The fee is $10 per day.
