Activities & Camping

Fall Camporee –

“The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.”  This camporee is intended to take a closer look at these values that underpin the lessons we teach in scouting, through a series of activities that explore these principles in practice.  We will explore Leave No Trace, what it means to be loyal, and a lesson in cleanliness (among other points of the Scout Law).  We hope the activities will cause scouts and leaders to reflect on the values of scouting and how they apply to everyday life.

On Friday evening, all participating scouts will be divided into patrols for the weekend.  Scouts are friendly, and we want the scouts to get to know their new patrol mates over the weekend.  (They will continue to camp and eat with their troops.)  They will participate in the program on Saturday in these new patrols.  Some events will be scored, and some will not.  At the end of the campfire, a winning patrol will be identified.

The Camporee will be held at Camp Joy from October 12-14.  Units should plan to arrive on Friday evening, with the bulk of the program to be on Saturday.  The camporee will close on Saturday evening with a campfire.  Units should pack up and checkout on Sunday morning.  We ask that scouts have a uniform for the flag ceremonies and the campfire.  A Class B inform is sufficient for the daytime activities on Saturday.

In addition to the Camporee, the CSAW program (Cub Scout Advancement Workshop) will be held on Saturday, from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM.  Cub Scout units are invited to camp for one or both nights, so long as they have the appropriately trained leaders and follow all BSA guidelines for Cub Scout Camping.  CSAW is open to all Cub Scouts from Tigers to Webelos.
