- As of July 10th, the Cape Girardeau Scout Shop will begin transitioning to a council-run store. This decision was made in the best interest of our customers, volunteers, and families. The shop will be CLOSED as we make the necessary changes, and a re-opening date will be announced ASAP. While we transition, you may still find the supplies you need at scoutshop.org, or by visiting one of our council’s other shops.
- Selling Popcorn is a great way to financially support your Scouting program for the entire year! Money from the sale can be used to cover the cost of Camporees, Pinewood Derby events, equipment, badges and more. Popcorn Kernels: save the date for August 4 at 6pm at Cape County Park South, Shelter 20. We will be distributing tasting kits and materials. Due to COVID-19, training will either be held during distribution on August 4 or online. Sign up for the 2020 sale here.

- 2020 Summer Experiences:
- The Cub Scout Summer Camp Kit includes Jurassic Explorers themed activities, STEM activities, safe, fun Scouting at home and more! This is available in a free or paid version.
- The Cub Scout Summer Camp Expansion Kit is now available! This is also offered in a free or paid version. Purchased kit includes Jurassic Explorers neckerchief, TONS of activity supplies, bug hotel, seeds & more.
- The Scouts BSA Advancement Starter kit is available in a free or paid version.
- GSLAC has several virtual Merit Badge Clinics happening in July. Sign up while spaces are still available!
- The Outdoor Family Experience is a safe and socially distant way to camp this summer. Whether you choose an overnight campsite a Day Pass or a cabin, your family will have access to hiking, playing in the creek, fishing and other natural features of camps.

- Virtual Eagle Trail Workshop will be held July 20-23 offering up to 9 merit badges to choose from. Scouts can earn up to 3 merit badges that week. The workshop will take place each morning with an opening at 8:45am. Scouts will rotate in and out break out session ending the day learning about the eagle process. - Plans for any district or council activity that include a total number of face to face participants of more than 10, are to be submitted to the Council Health & Safety Committee for approval. Please download and use the attached form and submit to Steve Hammonds at hammonds@scouting.org. All requests received by the fifteenth of each month will be reviewed and a response given by the end of each month. Please note that with the changing conditions of our COVID-19 environment, events may be cancelled or changed significantly at the last minute before the event takes place. Additional resources can be found on the CDC website.
- Scouting For Food will be here before we know it! We have a couple of routes in Cape and Jackson that are not being covered. If your unit can take an additional route, please let Scouting For Food Chair, Mike Biri know, biri3131@charter.net
- Membership fees are increasing as of August 1, 2020. Please see the infographic for details.
- For every $5.00 donated, the Greater St. Louis Area Council will deliver one Community Discount Card to a local Frontline Hero! Donations will support local Scouting, local businesses, and those fighting to keep us safe! We are asking the community (our friends, family, and other network contacts) to help us recognize local heroes. Units participating in this campaign will earn 50% of commission ($2.50) for each donation. Sign up for the sale here!
- Half of our district’s Friends of Scouting presentations were supposed to occur during the time of the COVID-19 shutdown. If this includes your unit, please email your new presentation date (in person or virtual, whichever is best for your unit) to metelski@scouting.org
- The Greater St. Louis Area Council has six outstanding summer camps to help your youth have unique life-changing experiences in the great outdoors! Starting Monday, July 13th at 9:00 AM, Scouts BSA Troops and Venturing Crews will be able to select their week, camp, and campsite for 2021. During this process, units will provide an estimated number of youth and adults attending camp and pay a nonrefundable $100 deposit. Merit badge selection and individual payments will be open beginning January 4, 2021. Registration will be accessible via http://bsaarchive.webtestdev.com/activities/camping/scouts-bsa-summer-camp/.
